The North Wales Swiss Society

The North Wales Swiss Society was created after Beatrice Schlegel, a Swiss in Caernarfon, came across the Swiss in Wales website and  contacted Ruth Thomas, the Honorary Consul, at the Consulate of Switzerland in Cardiff in Cardiff. To Beatrice surprise, she learnt that she wasn't the only Swiss in Caernarfon and in North Wales, and that other Swiss have settled in Anglesey, Flint and Conway. When Ruth asked Beatrice if she was interested in starting a very first Swiss Society in North Wales, Beatrice didn't hesitate and the first North Wales Swiss Society, the Caernarfon Swiss Club, was launched on 16 May 2009 by the Honorary Consul . Since then Beatrice has been organising gatherings for the growing North Wales Swiss Society ever since.

In 2015 the Consul General at the Swiss Embassy in London, Hermann Aebischer, was the guest of honour at the annual summer event. It was the first time the North Wales Swiss were visited by a representative of the Swiss government.

The North Wales Swiss  usually meet twice a year. In the summer to celebrate the Swiss National Day and in early December, for a St Nicolas Day Raclette and Fondue event. All gatherings are for all the family, including the children.

Membership

The North Wales Swiss Society is a very  informal group of Swiss in North Wales.  There are no no joining up and membership fees nor any formal regulations. The costs of each event of the North Wales Swiss are shared amongst participants. The Society is not affiliated to any other organisation, but keeps in close contact with the South Wales Swiss Society.
